I had a really fab day — last week heading up to the UK Charity Conference last week. A heart warming end to my week — Since moving to Birmingham and discovering The Old Post Office and I met a crew of new friends from there and immediately bumped into Nissa, Marie from BCM to name a few!

Super Lovely to bump into some friends old + new ones too — Jon Salmon of Speakers Collective , Bobbi Robson some of the Basis team too — somehow I ended up in the pub some how?! — Joe, Anna Polojarvi, Nissa and many more friends — can’t wait to keep our conversations going.

Nothing brings me more joy than a day filled with learning that is self curated sponsored by a whole heap of kind organisations trying to make a difference through digital in the day work. How much help a lot of these charity folks need in supporting with digital - ‘Time and time again we heard people really struggling with how to stay on top of tech as a charity organisation and having fewer and fewer teams actually working in it.’

A big thanks to the sponsors of the day too long to capture them all but I’m pretty grateful now for great events that are free and accessible. You can see the agenda for the day here thanks for that! Including some fascinating chats from notes across the sessions.

  1. Are digital transformations working? Stories from the frontline.
Digital literacy and up-skilling too is often hard to fund but so necessary when implementing a digital product.
  2. Is it time to dump digital and go back to in-person interactions?
I loved this conversation on whether or not we should be pushing digital at all any more and we should jus all be sat in a room again having a cuppa — what is the impact of what we’re doing — we need to be so careful as people luck enough or orchestrate change. What is the impact of digital on older adults? We must make sure we’re designing across channelsfor good service experience.
  3. How can we be more open and collaborative and compete less?
Does shared data help? Open source, what is it? How can we always be pushing for other people working on similar things. Not constantly re-inventing the wheel. Making things Open whenever we can is critical. What a super day that was working together for those opportunities — the ways that we need to do things are fascinating.
  4. Embedding co-design practice.
Collaborating is hard so play makes it easier hosted by the fab Emma Parnell — how can we help each other go beyond the box ticking of co-design and make sure we are working together some shared set of co-design standards?

Books to buy & resources for you:
- Radical Candor
